THE LEGION OF MARY MEETS EVERY THURSDAY EVENING AT 6:15 pm IN THE FACULTY LOUNGE OF THE SCHOOL FOR INFORMATION CONTACT THE PARISH OFFICE 610-446-0200 OR STDENISPARISH@STDENISHAVERTOWN.ORG The Legion of Mary is an Association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces, have formed themselves into a Legion for service in the warfare which is perpetually waged by the Church against the world and its evil powers. The Legion setting allows the Roman Army whose members were called Legionaries. The Commander of this Army is Mother Mary herself who wishes to see all her children closer to her Son. Her Legionaries bring the Good News to all they meet. The St. Denis parish unit of the Legion is named as MATER CONSOLATIONIS praesidium.
FAQ What is it? It is a world-wide organization of lay apostolate, in which Catholic men and women sanctify themselves through prayer and spiritual work in union with Our Lady under the guidance of a priest. What is the Origin of the Legion of Mary? The Legion of Mary began in Dublin, Ireland on September 7, 1921 and is now in almost every country of the world. What is the purpose of the Legion of Mary? 1). To make its members better Catholics and to mobilize the Catholic laity. 2). To raise the spiritual level of the entire community through direct contact with and interest in every member and potential member of the Mystical Body of Christ. 3). To accomplish this through Mary, Mother of Souls and Mediatrix of All Grace. Who may belong? Any practicing Catholic who is willing to fulfill the obligations of membership in the proper spirit. Senior members must be 18 years of age. Junior members are those under 18. What are the duties of active members? 1). To attend a weekly meeting. 2). To do a minimum of two hours of apostolic work each week with a partner. This work is selected by the priest and assigned at the meeting by the President. 3). To recite the Legion prayer daily. 4). To follow the system of the Legion according to its official handbook. What are some of the types of works undertaken? 1). Visiting the sick in homes and hospitals. 2). Establishing friendly contact with non-Catholics. 3). Following up the parish census. 4). Instructing prospective converts and school children. 5). Visiting families in the parish to foster Catholic devotions First Friday, missions, daily rosaries, etc. 6). Perform the Church's fundamental purpose of evangelization. "Evangelization is not placed on an agenda of the Church, it is the agenda of the Church." What are the reasons for joining? 1). Our Lady needs you. The Legion of Mary will give you a chance to dedicate yourself to her service. By actually working for her, your love for her will be translated into actions. 2). You will grow in your Faith, and the gifts of grace you received in Baptism and Confirmation will be developed. 3). You will enjoy the friendships of your fellow Legionaries and the friendship of those for whom you work. What do I need to be a member? A willingness to let Our Lady use you as you are. She needs your hands and feet, your lips and heart, your time and effort, for Legionaries are simply Mary's means of action in the world today. She will use what you give her to the best advantage, for although others may surpass your offering, they cannot replace it.
